External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar strongly criticized the Opposition alliance, INDIA, during his suo moto statement on the country's foreign policy in the Rajya Sabha. He questioned their commitment to India's national interests, expressing concern over their disruptive behavior in the Parliament.
As chaos ensued in the Upper House, with members from the Treasury benches chanting "Modi, Modi," and those from the Opposition raising "India, India" slogans, Jaishankar expressed disappointment in the way partisan politics was being pursued.
Addressing reporters outside the Parliament, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of putting national interest first and listening to the progress made by the country's foreign policy. He stressed that this area has historically witnessed national consensus and unity among different political parties.
The External Affairs Minister also shed light on notable achievements, such as securing jet engine technology transfer from GE Aerospace and witnessing investment commitments by US companies in India's semiconductor sector.
Despite the disruptions, Jaishankar emphasized the significance of acknowledging and appreciating the country's progress in foreign policy, which he considered an achievement not just for the government but for India as a whole.
Shortly after Jaishankar's statement, the proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 12 pm due to the ongoing sloganeering by the Opposition.
